AB DFDS Lisco
The year 2001, following restructuring of the Lithuanian Shipping Company AB Lietuvos jūrų laivininkystė, saw incorporation of AB LISCO BALTIC SERVICE, later privatized by the Danish shipping company DFDS A/S. At the same time, AB LISCO BALTIC SERVICE took into possession part of the dry cargo ships and all the ferries of the former shipping company.

- On 01 June 2006 AB LISCO BALTIC SERVICE was renamed to AB DFDS Lisco.
- After DFDS A/S acquired maritime and logistics company Norfolkline on 12 07 2010 and the restructurization took place, DFDS Lisco logo was replaced with DFDS Seaways. Company‘s name will be changed to DFDS Seaways at the nearest future.
Over 140 years experience of DFDS A/S – the owner of AB DFDS Lisco, impacts the company development with a substantial impulse. Fleet renewal, improvement of service quality, new market search and consolidation of the existing ones, growing synergy in the DFDS Group enables AB DFDS Lisco to compete in the enlarged EU zone.
AB DFDS Lisco company group employs over 650 personnel, including about 430 seafarers employed on the 8 ships owned by the Company.
From the very moment of establishment, the Company placed a special focus on safety of freight and passenger transportation and ensurance of the quality of the services provided. ISM, ISPS Codes testify to conformity of AB DFDS Lisco vessels and onshore services to the international safety standards. The Company’s agency department has been awarded ISO 9001:2001 Quality Management System Certificate, which warrants high standards of customers’ service and quality control.
At present, AB DFDS Lisco operates passenger lines from Klaipeda to Karlshamn, Kiel, Sassnitz, from Sassnitz to Baltiysk and from Riga to Lübeck. The Company is the cargo agent of DFDS Seaways (formerly DFDS Tor Line) freight services:
- Klaipeda – Karlshamn;
- Klaipeda – Kiel;
- Klaipeda – Sassnitz;
- Klaipeda - Copenhagen/Fredericia/Aarhus.
In consistency with the strategy of fleet renewal and upgrading and quality policy accepted by the major shareholder, AB DFDS Lisco, throughout the first seven years of its operation, has acquired 6 state-of-the-art vessels and sold eleven vessels failing to meet the service standards of the Company. The new ferries "LISCO GLORIA", "LISCO OPTIMA", "LISCO PATRIA", "LISCO MAXIMA" enabled both to consolidate the Company’s positions on the lines between Lithuania and Germany and Lithuania and Sweden and significantly improve service rendered to the Company’s customers.
In 2009 May a new ferry was deployed on Klaipeda-Kiel service. The vessel is able to accommodate 2500 lane metres and 515 passengers. The new ship flies the Lithuanian flag and is the one with the biggest passenger capacity in the Lithuanian ships register.
2 new Ro-Ro vessels TOR BOTNIA and TOR FINLANDIA were acquired in January 2009 which improves the service on the connecting Rotterdam (NL) and Immingham (UK).
